Isaac Newton HAGER
Obituary - The Barnesville Enterprise: The death of Mr. Isaac Hager occurred at his home on Friday afternoon after an illness of ten weeks; no particular disease, but the general giving way of his strength and vitality. He was overcome with the heat while at work on the wall at the James Walton home in August and since that time has been confined to his bed and not able to rally. Isaac Newton Hager was born in Barnesville,April 23, 1847 and was the son of Isaac and Amanda Hager, prominent people and among the pioneer residents of Barnesville, Ohio. He had always lived here and could relate the incidents in the growth of our town and the many changes made. He was a stone mason by trade but for the past fifty years during the winter months, he was employed by the Bradfield firm in the tobacco industry and for the past two years he had worked for Charles W. Reed in the same business. Mr. Hager was industrious, always at work and had remarkable health. He had never been sick in bed before in his life. He was a kind, clever man, even temperament and was well and favorably known. He had been a member of the Methodist church since early in life and lived as he professed doing good unto others. He was the last of his family, his only surviving sister, Mrs. Harriet Phillips having died in Marion, Indiana on September 6. Mr. Hager was twice married, the first time to Hettie Scott and five children were born to them, one son dying in infancy and the wife several years later. The surviving children are Charles Hager, Mrs. Ella Barnes, Mrs. E. W. McWade, Mrs. Hattie Gallagher all of Akron. In 1900, Mr. Hager was again married, this time to Sarah Maguire who with three step-children, M. A. Slevin, Akron, FrankMaguire, Wheeling and Mrs. Anna Hunkler of this place also survives him. Funeral services were held at the home Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. C. W. Cooper and internment was made in Greenmont Cemetery. The out-of-town relatives here to attend the funeral were: Mr.and Mrs. Charles Hager, M.A. Slevin and family, Mrs. E. W. McWade, Mrs.Hattie Gallagher, Mrs. Ella Barnes, Akron; Frank Maguire, Wheeling. Isaac married Hettie SCOTT. Isaac next married Sarah Ruth POULTON, daughter of Joshua F. POULTON and Elizabeth Jane DOUGHERTY, on 29 NOV 1900 in Belmont County, Ohio. (Sarah Ruth POULTON was born on 29 SEP 1858 in Graysville, Ohio - Monroe County, died on 7 NOV 1928 in Barnesville, Ohio - Belmont County and was buried in Assumption Catholic Church Cemetery - Barnesville, Ohio - Belmont County.) |
