bullet  General Notes:

He was a soldier in General Wayne's army, and about 1800 moved into Ohio, and settled at Powhatan Point on the river. He and Nancy's descendants spread into West Virginia and through southeastern Ohio. This branch o fthe family became identified with the U. B. Church at Dayton, and became supporters of the Dunkard Church. (From Issue of Nov 21, 1973, Smith-Noffsinger-Drum, Families 2nd installment):

Will for Matthais Noffsinger
In the name of God, Amen I Matthais Nofsinger, being weak in body but of sound mind and memory, blessed be almighty God for the same, do make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following. 1. I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Anne Nofsinger the plantation or farm that we now possess with all my personal estate, goods and chattelsor what kind or nature so-ever. I give and bequeath the same to my said beloved wife Anne Nofsinger during her life time and at her death to be divided equally among my children now alive or with this exception that if my said wife Anne should marry that then a division of the property should take place in like manner as it would at her death. 2. Lastly I do also give and begueath to my youngest son, James Nofsinger when hearrives at the age of twenty-one a horse worth for forty dollars, but if no worth that sum, that it might be make up in other property to that amount. 3. I do hereby ordain and appoint George Gautz and David Rubleas sole executors of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills by me made in witness where of I have here unto set my hand and seal this 4th day of March in the year of our Lord 1808, witnessed by Mitchel Atkinson and Daniel Goetz. The receipts of some of the heirs were signed Dec 1810, so if property was divided then, one would assume that Nancy (Ann) the widow of Mathias was deceased or remarried by then, however, she appears in the deed when Matthias' heirs were buying land from Rubles in 1817, but not when it was sold to Greenes in 1824. This is why I like to get several pieces of information to prove a point, as they may not always add up. One of the receipts was for Ann, so she musthave been alive in 1810: "Received of David Ruble, executor of the last will and testimony of Mathias Noffsinger, deceased, Ninety one dollars it being in full of my part of all the personal property of Matthias Noffsinger my husband deceased, received by me thirty of December 1810, signed Ann Noffsinger, her mark." The receipts signed by William Smithand Elizabeth Smith show that they recieved $42.21. It being in full ofall the personal property of the estate of Mathias Noffsinger, as heirs, and was also signed on the thirtieth of December 1810. Jacob Drum, who was married to Sarah Noffsinger on 30 April 1807 (Belmont County, Marriage Book B, page 10) was originally from Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. Both Jacob and his wife Sarah are buried in a private burying ground along the Little Muskingum River in Monroe County. Sarah'stombstone reads, "Died Nov 22, 1849," aged either 66 or 68 years. The 1850 mortality schedules for Monroe County also lists her, and shows that she died of burns in Dec 1849, aged 63, and born in Maryland. That maybe a clue as to where Matthais Noffsinger came from and how early he was there - Maryland cir. 1783-1786._________________________________________________________________
1790 Census states: Matthew Nafziger, Bern Twp., Berks County, Pennsylvania. Family, four males over 16, three males under 16, five females. (From "The Nafzger Heritage News", Mar 1, 1975) From Mrs. W.Dale Brown, Marietta, Ohio: Mrs. Brown is a descendant of Matthais Noffsinger, born in Pennsylvania and died in 1808. He married Nancy Brillin PA, who was a native of Virginia. He served in General Wayne's Army. He settled in Belmont County, Ohio and is alleged to have crossed the frozen Ohio River in 1805. At one time, it was assumed that this Matthais was the son of Matthew (Mathias) of Berks County who landed in America in1749. He is not connect to Jacob, who landed in the U.S. in 1750 according to his will. He would fit the age as being a son of Rudolf. Also, he could connect to Peter or Ulrich._________________________________________________________________
