Duties of Women in the Home and the Church

Duties of Women in the Home and the Church

Intro:  In this day of feminism and liberalism that has permeated our nation and that is now infiltrating our churches you will not hear any preaching or teaching on the womans place.  I want this understood, I love women.  Both of my grandmothers are women, my mom is a woman, my niece is a woman and my wife is a woman.  So let there be no doubt that I love women.  Also let it be understood that Paul loved women.  I believe this is obvious by reading Ephesians chapter five. Most of the time when you get on this subject people will tell you that all of these restrictions placed on the different roles in the home and church are based on historical and cultural context of the day in which the Word of God was written.  If this was true then how come we don't disregard the whole Word of God.  The reason is because anyone that will be honest with the Word of God will tell you that it is not based on Historical and cultural context but rather it is based on the fact that God's Word is Inspired by God (II Timothy 3:16,17).  So let us for the next few minutes look and see what God has to say about the place of women in the home and Church.

 I.  Duties in the Home
      A.  I Timothy 5:14 and Titus 2:3-5
            1)  I Timothy 5:14 Paul says that younger women are to marry,
have children, take care of the home.  Because if they do
this then they are not giving the enemy a chance to speak
                 any thing against them.
            2)  Titus 2:3-5 Here we see Paul admonishing Older and
younger women alike.  First he tells the older to be an
example of Godliness.  They are not to be false accusers,
not drunkards and they are to teach good things.  They are
to teach the young women to be clear minded, to love their
husbands and their children.  This is where the rubber
meets the road and this flies in the face of modern day
wisdom and thought.  The Bible says that women are to be
keepers at home, notice Paul says nothing about an
education, a degree or a career.  Is it any wonder that our
homes are in the shape they are in today?  Then he
continues, "...obedient to their own husbands, that the
Word of God be not blasphemed."  If a woman is married
she is to be in submission to her husband and follow him as
he follows the Lord Ephesians 5:21-25).  This is one reason
that I am opposed to women working outside of the home.
How can a lady that is working be obedient to her husband
alone?  If she works she is told to be at work at 8 and
cannot leave until 5.  Or she has plans with the family and
the boss says she has to work.  If this is so she has to be
obedient to someone other than her husband.  Of course
this is where most folks say Brother Troy what about the
virtous woman?  She worked.  I have no doubt the virtous
woman of Proverbs 31 worked, however, you can find no
proof that she worked a regular nine to five job outside of
the home.  Then we notice if that if she is a keeper at home,
obedient to her husband, then the Word of God is not
blasphemed.  So if to stay at home does not blaspheme the
Word of God then what does that tell us if she does work?
Whether intentionally or unintentionally she is blaspheming
or mocking the Word of God.
    B.  She is to be an example to the unbelieving husband.
          I Peter 3:1-6
    C.  Genesis 1:26,27 She is to be a help meet.  That is to say a
helper for her husband.  This means that she is not to rule her
husband and she is not to be a doormat either.

II.  Duties in the Church.
      A.  To teach younger women Titus 2:4
      B.  Not to teach mixed classes with men. I Timothy 2:12
      C.  To be silent in the congregation. I Timothy 2:11 and I
            Corinthians 14:33-35

            1)  Women that desire to honor God then they do not need to
be trying to run the services.
            2)  It is confusion when women speak out in the congregation.
Verse 33 says that God is not the author of confusion.
            3)  Verse 35 says it is a shame for a woman to speak out in
                  Church.
      D.  Godly women are to be honored and respected and above all
else loved as Christ loved his Church. I Timothy 5:2 and
            Ephesians 5:25

Conclusion:  I know that their will be those who will have all kinds of answers for what I am saying in this.  They will accuse me of being a chauvinist, mean spirited and many other things.  My only question is this, where do I get my position from?  Did I use the writings of men or the Word of God?  I will leave that with you. I know where my position is based upon.
