The Work of the Holy Ghost

John 16:8-15 Intro: There is much confusion concerning the Holy Ghost. Many have no idea what the Spirit of God really does. They attribute everything to the Holy Ghost that is in actually of a spirit but not the Holy Spirit. Remember the words of warning in I John 4:1-6. Their Brother John tells us not to believe every Spirit but to "try the Spirits." How do we do this? We see if what that certain "spirit" is doing matches up with God's Word. Tonight Lord willing, I want us to consider just a few things that the Holy Ghost does, and does not do. I. Negatively Considered: The Holy Ghost does not... A. Cause people to speak in gibberish. This was simply man hearing the gospel in their own language. Acts 2:3, 19:6,7 B. Cause people to add to the Word of God Revelation 22:18,19 II. Positively Considered: A. The Holy Ghost has inspired men to. 1. Write the Scriptures II Peter 1:20-21 2. Preach the Gospel Romans 1:1 3. Give boldness to Preach in spite of the circumstances surrounding them Acts 5:29 B. The Holy Ghost does John 16:8-15; John 6:37,44; 14:25-27 1. Exalt Jesus over himself John 16:14 2. Convict sinners John 16:8,9 3. Draw sinners John 6:37,44 4. Teach the saints truth John 16:13 5. Seal saints Ephesians 4:30 |
